This video brings back memories.........When I was on the plane I was scared. The captain had just informed us that the landing gear at the nose did not work. It was a technical problem. When we were skidding on the runway, there was smoke in the plane, caused by the friction of the plane on the runway. We had to slide down the emergency exit, it was fun. I just came from narita airport that day. Thank you for uploading this.
Captain, you saved the lives of all on-board. Mechanical failure placed you all in a difficult position. You, and all of the crew, acted professionally and performed your emergency duties flawlessly. I commend the entire crew of this flight. I love you Dad, you will always be the captain in my heart. -Love, your son, Connor.
Well, some could say the same about your comment. English very "well." Considering the circumstances, everyone got out it seems. This emergency caught them off guard.
sure but remember its the cabin crew and not the pilots who asses the situation inside and outside and evacuates safely and quickly the passengers by directing them or re-directing them to a safe exit.
The Captain is not going to order an evacuation unless he feels the aircraft is in immediate danger (fire, smoke). Flight Attendants will only initiate an evacuation if they believe the aircraft is in great danger. At first, there was no smoke, so the Captain told everyone to remain seated. I'm sure he was informed about the fire, to which he gave the order to evacuate. Most pax seemed calm... in evacuations, there will always be injuries, something to avoid, unless your life is at stake.
the evac procedure is to leave your things and get out and away from the aircraft as fast as possible. in this situation, it appears that it is get out slowly (and get ur things) and then get away from the plane.
I wasn't there and I don't know procedures for NWA but its looks like a mess. Poor passenger communication, poor evacuation communication! Those FAs should have been yelling their commands the entire time!
Wow that was amazing! Im glad people did not panic at alla. And also, according of what Im seeing, everybody made it. I hope not to go through that sort of situation, but if it happens, I would like to be prepare.
Do these people know that they are NOT supposed to take their luggage, when the plane is being evacuated? They wasted a lot of time. But the whole thing didn't seem too rushed.
well, it is apparent that it isn't that much of an emergency evacuation as passengers were turned away from a usable exit and passengers were only going down the slide at what appears to be 2 Left one at a time when the slide accommodates passengers two at a time.
Whats more scary is the pilot told people to stay in their seats!!!!! There was smoke coming from the front of the aircraft which means there must have been sparks which ultimately leads to fire. This was unplanned therefore the aircraft would have still had fuel inside it!
I also cannot believe the person that filmed this (if it is you that has posted the video, you also need to be shown how quickly an aircraft explodes) You were just back and forth filming people like you were touring the aircraft.
When any part of the airframe strikes the ground the situation is normally considered potentially catastrophic by all major airlines, and cabin crew are supposed to commence an evacuation of their own volition. The fire risk is high. This aircraft should have been evacuated immediately. Northwest needs to review its safety policy.
You'd never know looking out the window. The angle relative to the horizon looks pretty normal. Are those kids in the backround saying "Red Rover Red ROver"? That's cute....
It appears that even though the aft slides were not deployed (probably dude to the fact of the steep angle and risk of injury it would provide to passengers)
I also want to add that at the time, NWA's policy was that the F/As should NEVER initiate an evacuation without 1) an 'Easy Victor' command from the flight deck or 2) what they called 'no doubt, get out' aka you see smoke/flames. Based on the commands this was a planned emergency and the pax had been briefed. I am grateful that my current airline gives F/A's the authority to initiate evac based on our own assessment. But yea, what I see here is pretty disturbing.
I will agree that 5 minutes for emergency vehicles to arrive - be it fire or ambulance or both - isn't what one would expect. I assume in Guam or where ever this is they don't have fire rescue on airport premises?
I knew there were allot of issues with this incident but this is the first time I have seen this tape. Clearly, CRM was non-existent. I worked that same pattern a number of times and recognize some of the NRT IFSRs.
Guys seriously...this isn't like the most scariest thing in the world...I'm 22 yrs old an I've experienced thing much worse then this and one of the was on a flight from LHR to SYD with my friends with and emergency landing in BKK on Qantas if you haven't seen the video see it and being on that flight was scary
Wow, so the plane landed in Guam. I live on Guam, and I have to say that having all the people walk around the runway is very unprofessional, they should have brought out a bus to transfer the people to the airport. Instead of having them walk.
I should imagine the smoke was coming from super heated metal that was brought to burning point by the extreme friction that results when the fuselage of an aircraft of that size and weight skids down the rough runway at that speed. Although there may not have been a fire, it can still cause materials within the airframe to smoke.

this was beautiful, everyone was calm. smoke filled the cabin, captain helps people off. captain stays on board till everyone off. amazing footage

wow thats amazing. now i finaly know how it looks like from the inside if you make an emergency landing and sliding down an emergency slide

Wow, that is incredible footage. Thankfully, there was not a fire or dire or fuselage breakup, that could have been disastrous.

Thank You for flying Northwest Airlines, we hope to see you again, and have a pleasent day!
The captian and crew stayed calm and that helped on this occasion.
Well, some could say the same about your comment. English very "well."
Considering the circumstances, everyone got out it seems. This emergency caught them off guard.
Why are they taking their stuff from the over head bins? They can retrieve them later.
Thank God You Are All Safe. Just be blesed that the pilot knew what to do.
Wow this is so cool how u got to tape this and nobody cared.

Amazing. I love the pilots ..."we have some trouble with the nose-wheel".... you're not kidding.
Are the flight attendants yelling, "Bend over, Head Down!" over and over again?
Nice video.

I wasn't there and I don't know procedures for NWA but its looks like a mess. Poor passenger communication, poor evacuation communication! Those FAs should have been yelling their commands the entire time!
no it doesn't. A video camera doesn'[t fall under electronic equipment
Wow that was amazing! Im glad people did not panic at alla. And also, according of what Im seeing, everybody made it. I hope not to go through that sort of situation, but if it happens, I would like to be prepare.
it's nice to be able to read that.. i'm still working on kanji.. :]

What FAR's are you talking about?
the 747-200 still in passenger service, in 2007??? Its outdated today... and it was outdated 9 years ago...

The captain tells them to stay in their seats? He should of told people to evacuate in a calm manner
